ICACD Awards Announced

At the recent 2nd International
Conference on African Culture and Development (ICACD 2009),
held in Accra, Ghana, the inaugural ICACD Awards were
announced. The awards highlight and acknowledge commitment
and achievement in the work that is being done across Africa
to ensure that culture is valued and included as essential
to all human development programs and processes– social,
economic and environmental.
In announcing the 2009 ICACDs Culture and
Development Chairman and Founder,
Hon. Kojo Appiah-Kubi said:,
“This is our first year for presenting
these Awards and we are committed to celebrating the hard
work and creativity that exists across Africa. It is vitally
important that we support and reward the courage and
inspiration by our peers and partners.”
The 2009 ICACD Awards were presented in a
ceremony at the NUBUKE Foundation, East Legon, Accra to:
The Young
Achievers Award
to
Mr. AMMAR KESSAB from Algeria for his dedicated
commitment to culture and development.
The Outside
the Box Award
jointly to:
AFRICA FETE from Dakar, Senegal for their innovative
programming and use of art and culture to foster emerging
talent and focus on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, and
Mr. ISRAEL JACOB MASSUANGANHE from
Angola for his innovation and leadership in regard to
participatory governance at the local level.
The Award winners will receive a plaque
carved by Ghanaian wood craftsman Mr. Henry Sonu in
acknowledgement of their achievements.
